Mangosteen (มังคุด)
Mangosteen
The fruit is reddish or dark purple in color. Due to its good taste, mangosteen is also known as the queen of fruits while Durian is the king of fruits in Thailand. Mangosteen grows a lot in East and South of Thailand. The tree itself has thick, dark green, glossy leaves and large, rose-pink flowers. These trees generally don’t grow well outside of the tropics. The fruits are the size of a small orange, round or flattened on the ends. Mangosteens have a thick, hard, deep red rind surrounding snow-white flesh, which is in segments resembling those of a mandarin orange.
Use
Eat it as a fruit! What does it taste like exactly? It has a similar flavor to lychee fruit but is sweeter and so delicate that it melts in your mouth like ice cream.
